Why can't I use the internet or change my security settings?
I have had my laptop for a little over a year now. It has been working great until a few days ago. At that time, I noticed my internet connection kept on being "turned off" whenever my computer went to sleep. This had never occurred before but I just assumed I had failed to notice a naturally occurring process.
However, yesterday I kept having problems with my internet connection and decided to shut it down. When I turned it back on today, I can no longer access my internet. I am not using wireless but am connected through a modem. My computer says that it cannot find any available networks. After restarting the modem and trying multiple times, my computer still won’t, or can’t connect.
The next thing I notice is strange messages about "network configuration settings" popping up. When I checked my security settings, my firewall, automatic updates and my antivirus software have all been turned off or are not reporting. They have all been on and up-to-date previous to this incident! Windows Defender is strangely able to be accessed, but the graphics don’t look right. The buttons have white outlines around them as if they are copied graphics.
Regardless, my computer will not let me turn my security settings back on, my scans turn up clean, and I can’t connect to the internet to update my machine. I know this is a long description of the problem, but does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? If so, how can I fix it?

It sounds like you have some malware. some malware will mimic a antivirus program as well as turn off your other antivirus programs and shut off internet access (by changing your proxy server settings) yo can probably get internet access by doing the following
tools –>internet options
connections tab ==> lan settings
uncheck use a proxy server for your LAN.
from there you can find programs online to remove the malware. such as adaware or spybot search and destroy.
its possible you have a win pc defender spyware, so you might want to search for that
